Is The Ladybug A Bug Or An Insect?

You see the ladybug is not really a bug it is actually a beetle of the insect class. Therefore the name ladybug is a common name and lady beatle is the proper name for this beatle.

The easiest way to prove this is by their mouthparts and their wings you see beetles have mouths that can chew and wings that are covered by a hard shell.

Ladybugs lay hundreds of eggs on the underside of leafs..

They tend to lay there eggs in rows or in clusters near aphid colonies so there larvae can start eating as soon as they hatch

Larvae vary in shape and color based on species but they emerge in a few days after the eggs have been put into place.

How do Larvae grow?

Some say they look like tiny alligators. Larvae grow quickly and shed their skin several times. When they reach full size, they attach to a leaf by their tail, and a pupa is formed. Within a week or two, the pupa becomes an adult ladybug.

While Ladybug Larvae are completely harmless to you and to your garden, ladybug larvae are very hungry creatures. In an eating frenzy, they might even eat other ladybug eggs too.

How did the ladybug get its name?

You see back in the day when farmers used to have tons of pest in their crops, They would pray to the Virgin Mary to get rid of the pest in their crops. Then they would notice these bugs that would eat the pest from eating their crops and called them beetle of Our Lady.. This is how the name stuck around but was later shortened to Lady Beetle as the proper name and Ladybug as a common name but remember it’s a beetle of the insect class..
